Wednesday, Mar. 15 (week 8 / day 52) New Zealand to Thailand

Travel Day: NZ to Thailand
We drove the hour from Wanaka to Queenstown Airport, flew to Auckland, waited 3 hours, then got on Emirates Airline headed to Bangkok, Thailand! We stopped in Sydney, Australia for a couple of hours & had to get off the plane. Too bad we didn't have time to go see the Opera House but as least we got some pics in the airport. The flight leaving Queenstown gave us a gorgeous view of the Southern Alps on the South Island. Paul got a few pics, including one of the tallest mountain in New Zealand, Mt. Cook.

One might think, "oh, Emirates Airline sounds sketchy," but it's now Kyra's favorite because of the gifts galore, not to mention the huge selection of movies on your personal screen! This was one of those jumbo planes: probably over 100 rows with 10 seats across (2 aisles) with stairs to an upper cabin for 1st class! (not us). We flew through the night arriving in Bangkok about 12:30am. It took about 2 1/2 hours to go from getting off the plane to getting to our apartment at almost 3am local time, 9am New Zealand time after 24 hours since leaving Wanaka.

Reflections on New Zealand:

New Zealand is:
accents, beauty, hiking, kayaking, canyoning, zorbing, bungee jumping, luging, windy roads, hitch hikers, stinky thermal wonderlands, blue drinkable river water, glaciers, mountain biking, Tim Tam slams, off-roading, speed boating, dairy farms and sheep, kiwis, fejoia smoothies, and HOKEY POKEY ice cream, sweet as, pavlova, Shruti, Sydney's love of fish and chips, Frankton Motor camp, the tavern, left side driving, going off on the on ramp.
