Friday, Mar. 3 (week 6 / day40) Rotorua, NZ

Skyline Luge Ride
We got up early & left Tauranga, this time by way of the straight & narrow toll road. By 9:15 we had taken the gondola up the hill, were fitted with helmets & jumped on our luges to ride down the hill! We each got ride twice down & the kids a third time each, except for Kyra who got to enjoy the gorgeous lake view from the porch while snacking on a chocolate muffin with mom. You can control your own speed by pulling back on the handlebars. Paul almost tipped over once or twice & we did see a guy topple over while we were riding back up on the chairlift. This was a super fun ride!

Mountain Biking
Next we hit the mountain bikes for a 2-hour ride through the thick forest trails just east of Rotorua. The hand brakes took Kyra some getting used to but she had a great time as we all did. We stayed on the kids' loop for most of the first hour, then moved onto the beginner "Dipper Trail" that was lots of fun with small hills. The trail was quite narrow at points with the ferns brushing on both sides as you rode through. By the end, Paul, Sydney & Carley found the "Creek Trail" which had more long hills & lots of turns & ended with a winding trail through the redwoods.
