The
Top of Germany
Zugspitze
is the name of the tallest mountain in Germany & part of the range that
forms the boundary with Austria to the south. The “Top of Germany” sure has an amazing panoramic view. We got to do some sledding, have a snowball fight & eat lunch up there too. We had some anxiety in the morning as Stacia called the train station to figure out how to get up the mountain. They told her that with a group of 7 we’d better get there early as it was a very nice day out. She called again when we finally got to Garmisch & now they told her that it was very full today but they could still sell tickets… the language barrier can really make things hard to understand! We found the train station, parked (only $2.50 for the whole day!) & bought tickets without a problem. The train ride is about an hour from Garmisch, across the valley & then up the steep slopes & through a tunnel. The train is on tracks with a center cogwheel mechanism to provide enough strength because it's so steep!
