Monday, May 1 (week 15 / day 99) Verona, Italy

Lonigo Monday Market
I dropped Stacia, Sydney, Carley & Avery off at the local market in Lonigo while I went to the grocery store to stock up on milk & cereal...
The market is held every Monday and is really quite big.  We don't think we made it through it all.  It sells fruits, veggies, plants, lots of clothes and shoes, and household goods.  The funny part was each "store" had set up some dressing rooms either next to, or inside of, their van.  Then the owner just holds up a mirror for you to look into.  Not quite as comfortable as our mall shopping but I guess more efficient as the "stores" are smaller and right next to each other.  The place was packed with people!

See the van in the back of the photo?  That is where you climb in to try on the clothes!

We felt very European sitting down in a busy café for croissants and a drink.

Rainy Verona
Little did Shakespeare know he would create a tourist frenzy in a small courtyard in Verona with his fictional Romeo & Juliette. We made the pilgrimage with some reluctance. We got in & out of there in about 90 minutes, the rain putting somewhat of a damper on this love story. We didn't know exactly where the courtyard was but it was easy to follow the stream of foreigners making their way through the postcard shops just like us. We did stop for some delicious hot fries to warm our bellies.

The courtyard is accessed through an arched hallway with grotesque walls covered with names, notes, stickers & even band-aides. It's another push-through experience that I was not looking forward to. We tried to create enough space for a family pic with the balcony. We didn't even try to approach the statue of Juliette on the other side of the courtyard & exited within 5 minutes. We might have stopped to eat but we just headed back to the van...
