Friday, May 19 (week 17 / day 117) Germany to Switzerland

Leaving Lechbruck
We said goodbye to our cute little town in Bavaria but we'll be back to Germany next week after 4 days in Switzerland. I would put Bavaria on my list for a return trip...

Lunch in Liechtenstein
I had planned to have a nice sit-down lunch in Liechtenstein but we were somewhat pressed for time to get to our place in Switzerland so we ended up eating from our travel food in the post office parking lot in Gamprin, just inside Liechtenstein. We have a pile of post cards that we need to send back to friends & family but due to long lunch-time hours at post offices it's hard to get things off!

Liechtenstein is a small country with close ties to Switzerland using the Swiss Franc & with German as the primary language. We passed into Switzerland first & then across the river to enter Liechtenstein. It's just so fun to say.

Snow in Switzerland
The forecast for these next few days has shown a lot of rain & we got a couple ours of it as we crossed Switzerland passing near Zurich & then Lucerne. We also had a half hour delay due to two different accidents on the road. We parked the van in the garage in Lauterbrunnen, unloaded our bags, got tickets & road the train up to Wengen. While waiting for the train, Sydney was inspired by our Salzburg bike tour & burst out in song, "How do you solve a problem like Maria?" with her black sweatshirt pulled up over her head like a nun's habit. Won't she make a fun college roommate!

We may have missed some great mountain views on the rainy drive but by the time we got up to Wengen, the rain had stopped & the view from our chalet was spectacular. They told us that it had been snowing earlier that day with temperatures unseasonably cold. The snow-capped mountains are more beautiful! It is supposed to warm up to the 60's by Monday...

  3. What awesome pictures. I have some of me and my siblings when I was about Cannon's age. I don't remember a whole lot about Germany, but looking at the photos is always a great experience. We love living vicariously through your fun trip. Thank you for sharing with us.

  4. As written above, I love living vicariously through your postings. In fact I save my reading of them as my reward for various tasks. Thanks for the effort. You are a beautiful family.
