Wednesday, May 10 (week 16 / day 108) Italy to Austria

Goodbye Italy!
We spent a total of 23 nights in Italy & are now leaving for good. We had a fabulous time & now it's time to move northward through Europe. We packed out of our hillside farm hotel by 10:30...

Sydney reading on the IPad before getting in the van
famous castle on the left just before the Austrian border
Lunch in Innsbruck
We stopped in the bustling city of Innsbruck which seemed to be under construction at every turn. Stacia looked up a recommended restaurant on Trip Advisor so we made a few loops around town trying to figure out how to get there. It was tempting just to stop at McDonald's or eat at the IKEA café but he held out. We found parking not too far from the restaurant corner which was also under construction.

This was certainly a local hangout with the front half of the restaurant for the smokers & past the glass walls the 2nd-hand smokers. The old men watched & made comments in German at the family of 7 passing through. Ordering from Germans is all business. They want to know your order, they get it to you quickly & that's it. Stacia ordered the family platter & the lady talked her out of anything else & was off to go get it...

the pretzels were gross (rye bread or something)

Hello Salzburg!
We rolled out of Innsbruck anxious to get to our place in Salzburg with rain in the weekend forecast... We passed through the very southeast corner of Germany & then back into Austria for the fastest route to Salzburg. We dropped our bags, claimed beds, rested for a bit & then left for an evening stroll along the canal. Kyra stayed home due to her mourning the loss of her story she had been typing in the 3-hour car ride...

  1. Take a look again at the pic of the castle in the distance while going over a bridge. Does that bridge not look like a comic strip drawing??? Maybe it just looks strange on my phone but with the light/shading it looks like it's been painted or drawn on there. As usual, it all looks amazing!
