Thursday, Apr. 20 (week 13 / day 88) Siena, Italy

Villa Caprera
We are here for 5 nights to recuperate from a busy traveling schedule, which continues next week with 3 nights in Rome, 2 in Rimini & then 4 nights near Vicenza! This place is beautiful. The idyllic Tuscan home on a hill with its surrounding acreage. I compare it to the plantation mansions of the South. On almost every hilltop there is a set of huge block buildings with fields of green, both grass & forest. Our home is known as "Villa Caprera" which sits just south of the main road opposite Siena.

We didn't do much all day: sleep in, explore forest with Cannon, homework, plan trip, blog, ball in the yard & some laundry. We have use of 2 washing machines but rarely do you find a dryer machine so most of the work is hanging the clothes. Stacia scouted out a restaurant for dinner while Carley, who has not been feeling well, stayed home with Kyra & Cannon for pasta, French fries & gelato.

Dinner in Siena
We walked through the old city in what must have been the non-touristy section since it was pretty drab & we didn't see any postcard shops. We found the restaurant by 7:15 but they don't open until 7:30 (like most places in Italy!) so we made another loop around the boring block. We'll have to go back into town another day & see the bright & glamorous section of town.

Ristorante la Sosta di Violante. Dinner was excellent! Fried cheese balls & filo dough-wrapped artichoke towers for appetizers, pumpkin lasagna for Stacia, cheese filled gnocchi for Sydney, beef spaghetti for Avery & Fiorentina steak strips for Paul. For dessert: chocolate flan with a warm gooey center & ricotta cream cheese with strawberry sauce which was even better than the chocolate! On the way back through town we found one gelato place still open so we had to get some, the perfect ending to a relaxing day.

  1. You have really covered a lot of ground in Italy - quickly. Enjoy this interesting compact and city of interesting rivalries. Intercity competitions. We only stayed two nights.
